Brent: mammoth shaping.
Apr. 12th, 2012 09:48 amUsing water based glue (important!) I sticked stencils right on mammoth slabs.

Then using jeweler saw I cut 'em out with about 5mm to spare on each side.

Then using belt sander thinned them down significantly.

As you may see, the epoxy filler almost disappeared, it might happen that there'll be no epoxy at all - this is very good.
Now I very carefully adjusted them so they fit "horisontally", between bolster and round piece, and they sat in place with a slight "clank".


Now all I need to do is to thin them down to the bolster's high and shape the sides to match the knife's shape. Oh yes, and drill the holes for screws which will hold'em in place.
P.S. This mammoth is surprisingly not that stinky...
